‘Sex ed’ school chiefs

Principals gone wild!
Some New York City school chiefs like trysts better than tests — they
slept with faculty members, lied about the affairs to officials, and in
one case even knocked up a teacher on his staff, according to newly
released reports by schools investigator Richard Condon.
Nicholas Bologna, former principal of PS 206 in Queens, gets an A for
adultery. He couldn’t keep his hands off his new assistant principal
Diana Simon, staffers griped. Their romance was common knowledge and
the two were caught “many times in compromising positions during school
hours,” Condon reports.
One staffer unlocked the door to Simon’s office, turned on the lights,
and Bologna “jumped up from a desk where Simon was sitting.” The
principal claimed Simon “suffered light sensitivity.”
Bologna’s furious wife barged into the school and was overheard yelling
at her hubby, “I know what’s going on.” Another time she screamed, “I
am going to blow the lid off this thing!”
Bologna and Simon, both married, insisted Simon enjoyed no preferential
treatment, and when the affair ended amicably in 2010 the two still
worked well together.
Bologna was demoted from principal, earning $124,500 a year, to
assistant principal, making $104,437, and has “no permanent post,” the
Department of Education said. Simon is assistant principal at PS 121.
In a case of sex, lies and videotape, Assistant Principal Kevin O’Neill
of PS 396 in Morris Heights was caught on camera leaving a motel around
the same time as a teacher he supervised.
He first denied to a co-worker that he had a thing with Samantha
Rothman Berman. O’Neill had observed the teacher’s classroom
performance for a report that could affect her rating.
He “swore on his children” that no sex occurred, saying he had a family
and sick mom to care for.
But when authorities were tipped to check the security video at the
Howard Johnson on Boston Road, they saw O’Neill and Rothman Bergman
arrive in separate cars and enter the hotel separately at 3:52 p.m. on
Dec. 22, 2010 — after school let out for the Christmas break. They left
a few minutes apart around 5:38 p.m.
O’Neill confessed he was “scared and too embarrassed to admit the
truth.” He was demoted to teacher at PS 118, the DOE said.
Another assistant principal, Giulliano Quesada, 32, of now-closed
MS399, struck up a romance with teacher Taylor Strack, now 29. The two
told a co-worker in January 2010 that Strack “was pregnant with
Quesada’s child.”
After congratulating the couple, the co-worker snitched. Quesada was
also demoted to teacher.
